However, my most recent visit to the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon last summer stands out for its unique charm and old-world hospitality. And when we did meet with the vet, I couldn't help but feel that she was more interested in her phone than in our cat's wellbeing. The echo cardiogram was less a state-of-the-art machine and more of an ancient relic, barely functioning as it beeped and whirred incessantly. When the results came back, I was horrified to learn that Whiskers had a serious heart condition that required immediate attention. But instead of offering us hope or a clear plan of action, the vet seemed almost dismissive. Her tone was cold and clinical, leaving me with more questions than answers.
